History, Mission, & Vision
Lacy Oasis is 10-acred Black family-owned lush land located in Owings, Maryland on Piscataway Territory (2 miles north of Chesapeake Bay), established in 1984 by the late Julia Beatrice Ringgold Carter Lacy. Since the early 2000s it has been stewarded by her grandchildren, Candice and Vonne Napper (Vetiver).
The mission of Lacy Oasis is to revive human connection, heighten self-awareness, and preserve natural resources through shared stewardship and cultural practices.
In March 2026 we officially introduced Lacy Oasis Creative Wellness, Inc. as a nonprofit entity to help continue bringing arts and wellness-centered programming to LO. Read more here.
